Police take swimmers off
beach due to high swells
BEACON HILL--Police patrols were in Beacon Hill on Wednesday moving thrill-seekers off the beach to keep them safe from the dangerously high swells hitting the island since Tuesday evening.
Severe sea conditions the past two nights were the results of a passing Atlantic storm that smashed the Northern side of the island with swells between four and six meters high. Some beaches in Dutch St. Maarten were affected with unusually high swells also.
We went yesterday and played in the waves a little bit but they were to big to even get into. We ended up completely covered in sand! Today we took Dave out to a spot to watch the waves and that is where the video is from. Do you see me and the kids up on the ledge (yes Mom we were safe!). Here are a few different pics of the waves too. You can see how far the water recedes and how high it gets when it comes back in again.
They are pretty beautiful to watch however they had very bad timing some friends and I were suppose to do the Friday Farewell, which is a cruise around the island, for mine and another friends birthday but now it has been canceled due to the weather....SUCKS! We had been planning it since January!
